Two Peach County deputies shot

Two Peach County deputies were shot responding to a domestic incident Sunday evening, authorities said.

The shooting happened about 5:45 p.m. in Byron. The deputies were taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, where they are being treated. Law enforcement officers swarmed the hospital.

J.T. Ricketson, special agent in charge of the GBI office in Perry, said the sheriff’s office contacted him about 6 p.m. requesting assistance with a shooting. He said deputies were responding to a domestic incident, and shots were fired. He said he was on his way to the scene and did not know any further details.

“We are rolling our whole team,” he said.

Sheriff Terry Deese could not immediately be reached for comment. A person who answered the phone at the sheriff’s office said no one was there who could release any information.

One suspect is in custody.

Bibb County deputies immediately responded to block intersections for the ambulance to get through.

Peach County Commission Chairman Melvin Walker said the shooting happened on Hardison Road at Ga. 42. Deputies had that area of Ga. 42 blocked, and many law enforcement vehicles were in the area.
