Two downtown Perry businesses were the first recipients of grants to help small businesses and entrepreneurs.
Davida’s Hair Salon and Tumblecheer Heroes were presented grants of $1,000 each on Friday, according to a news release. Davida’s grant will help with the cost of a new roof, while Tumblecheer will put its grant toward the cost of update its parking lot and building facade.
The grants were presented by Boost Downtown Perry, an investment group that provides grant funds to small businesses in the downtown development district. Investors, known as boosters, donate $100 twice a year to fund the program, which is overseen by Perry Downtown Development Authority and the Economic Restructuring Committee of Perry’s Main Street program.
Applicants may apply for funds for purchasing inventory, supplies, business equipment, marketing and advertising, renovations, a security system or eligible professional services, the release stated.
