Proposed rezoning for rail spur delayed once again

The question of whether the property at 2048 Barnes Ferry Road should be rezoned to add a rail spur will be delayed once again.

Robert Lovett, who represents Epic Midstream LLC, said the company is withdrawing its petition to ask the Macon-Bibb Planning & Zoning Commission to rezone the property. The matter had been scheduled for Monday’s commission meeting.

The delay, however, is temporary. Lovett said the company will refile the paperwork for a subsequent meeting as soon as possible.

The company has faced resistance from residents in the area, who have cited environmental and health concerns, as reasons not to add the rail spur. The item already has been deferred as local officials continue to gather information.

Lovett said two experts who would be able to address technical concerns about the project will be unavailable for Monday’s meeting, and Lovett decided it made more sense to refile the request later.

Also on the agenda for Monday’s meeting, which will take place at 1:30 p.m. in the Macon-Bibb County Commission chambers at the Government Center:
