James “Jim” Vaughns, owner of Crestwood Group LLC, 1000 Executive Court Drive, Suite B, Warner Robins, 478-225-6192.
How long have you been in business?: Vaughns opened his own office, where he works with people with substance abuse problems, in April 2006 after being in business with another person for a short time.
“I’ve been working in this field since 1976 while part of the United States Air Force. (He served more than 24 years.) I was a substance abuse counselor in the military. So it was a career field that I enjoyed, and I continued to work in it. My first job outside of the military was at what is now called the Phoenix Center.”
What do you like best about your job?: “What I like best is having an impact in someone’s life, someone turning their life around, getting better, feeling better and living a clean, sober lifestyle. By no means is it an easy task for the person or the therapist.”

What is your specialty? “My specialty is to work with people who have substance abuse problems. To help them determine a way to approach the addiction and hopefully help them. If they have a long-term problem, then they are probably going to need long-term treatment.”
The business is strictly outpatient, and he often works with clients in a group format. Some patients require hospitalization before going into counseling. Patients are sometimes referred to his business by the courts or by their family.
“We use a cognitive-based program ... and provide services for the individual, the family and couples who have substance abuse issues or mental health issues.”
What are your future plans?: Vaughns said he would like to open a program for veterans and the homeless and provide counseling, job training and resume writing services.
