The former home of a lighting business in downtown Macon may be transformed into offices and apartments.
Plans call for a mixed-use development at 1343 Georgia Ave. -- formerly the location of Putzel’s Lighting -- but first the site must be rezoned from a commercial district to a planned development district.
The project also requires a conditional-use permit with a variance in parking.
The matter is expected to be discussed at Monday’s Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission meeting.

The building would be renovated to include offices on the first floor and 10 apartments on the second floor, according to the commission’s staff report. A laundry facility and recreational area is included in the project.
Applicant Billy Pitts with The Triangle Group is listed as the owner of the 1.8 acre site. Pitts also is president of The Mutual Financial Group, which is adjacent to the planned development.
The project would be completed in two stages. Renovation of the office space would be completed first, and then the apartments would be developed, according to the staff report.
“The proposed development is consistent with the existing land use pattern and zoning in this particular area,” the report states. “In addition, the proposal will not adversely impact the living conditions in the area.”
The meeting begins at 1:30 p.m. in the 10th floor conference room, Willie C. Hill City Hall Annex, 682 Cherry St.
