Macon Mall opened with a big hole in it Monday.
For the first time in the mall’s 30-plus years, the doors to Sears were closed. The retailer announced in December that Macon Mall was on its list of 79 stores scheduled to close nationally.
Sunday was the final day for the Macon Mall Sears, which has operated in the shopping center since it opened.
Another mall anchor store, Belk, announced in March that it was closing its store there. Belk also has operated in the mall since the center opened in the mid-1970s.
Macon Mall, which once had six anchor stores, now has three.
It will be down to two -- J.C. Penney and Macy’s -- once Belk closes.
