Geico run to raise $35,000 for Special Olympics

More than 500 Macon-area runners are expected to participate in the 27th annual Geico Road Race on March 6.

The race begins at 9 a.m. at Geico’s office, 4400 Ocmulgee East Blvd. It is held to benefit Middle Georgia Special Olympics, and it is expected to raise more than $35,000 in pledge contributions, according to a news release. During the past 26 years, a total of nearly $300,000 has been raised.

The race includes two separate events: a 5K run/walk and a 12K run, the release stated.

Participants may register online at http://geicoroadrace.com or active.com. Race day registration will be available 7 a.m.-9 a.m. The cost is $15 if registered by Wednesday; $20 if registered after Wednesday or on race day. The fee for participants under 19 years old is $10. All entry fees include a race shirt.
