Dublin plant honored for environmental efforts

The Flexsteel Industries Inc. plant in Dublin on Thursday received an Environmental Stewardship Award for reducing electricity consumption, water consumption and waste, according to a news release.

Flexsteel, a Dubuque, Iowa-based company, designs and manufactures upholstered and wood furniture for residential, commercial, recreational vehicles and other markets, the release stated. Flexsteel received the award from Orion Energy System.

The company’s contribution to the environment includes reducing more than 1 million kilowatt hours, displacing 683 tons of carbon dioxide, reducing enough electricity to power 100 homes a year and saving 85,889 gallons of gasoline annually.

“By incorporating energy-efficient technology as part of a broad environmental initiative, Flexsteel’s Dublin manufacturing center is significantly reducing the greenhouse gases that are believed to cause climate change,” Linda Diedrich, Orion’s director of communication, said in the release.
