Macon Chamber gives Awards

During the 148th annual meeting of the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce, the following individuals and businesses were recognized for their work to the chamber and the Macon Economic Development Commission: Ambassador of the Year, Montene Gates, Modern Woodman of America; Economic Development Champion Award, Norfolk Southern, Macon Water Authority, Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority; Economic Development Lifetime Achievement Award, Frank Amerson, MWA; Chairman’s Award, Starr Purdue, Hutchings Funeral Home; Large Existing Industry of the Year, Panaprint; and Citizen of the Year, Albert Billingslea.

Atkinson receives new certificationDr. Lance Atkinson, medical director at Macon Occupational Medicine, has completed the American Board of Preventive Medicine certifying examination. Atkins is now certified as a specialist in occupational medicine.

Barry receives honorsArt Barry III of Coldwell Banker Commercial Eberhardt & Barry Inc. was named the 2008 No.1 industrial sales professional worldwide for Coldwell Banker Commercial. Barry also earned a spot in the company’s Platinum Level Circle of Distinction, an honor given to the top 8 percent of producers among Coldwell Banker’s network of professionals.

Chaffin joins insurance companyCharles H. Chaffin Jr. has joined Reeves & Roland Insurance Inc. as a producer. Chaffin attended Mercer University. He was formerly an independent risk management consultant, former director of risk management at Charter Medical Corp., commercial insurance specialist with Fickling & Walker Insurance Agency Inc., assistant vice president and agent with The Wightman Agency Inc. and special agent with the Insurance Company of North America.

Steed appointed director at bureauDaves Steed has been appointed director of the new brokerage department at the Georgia Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Co. Steed, who holds CPCU and CLU designations, has 34 years insurance industry experience. He was formerly with Cotton States Insurance Co., where he was vice president of brokerage, and commercial field service representative, district sales manager and director of sales. Steed is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a BBA in risk management and insurance.

Underwriters group announces officers The Middle Georgia Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter announced officers for 2009. They include: Shari Morgan, treasurer; April Jessup, secretary; Julie Allen, vice president; and Shane Maddox, president.

Credit Union elects officersRobins Federal Credit Union has elected the following 2009 officers: Edward C. Hilliard, chairman; James A. Kidd, vice chairman; Donald R. Hanson, treasurer; and Michael D. Parker, secretary. Hanson, Hilliard and Harold “Buz” Sawyer were elected each to serve a three-year term.

Wainwright on Flint boardJeff Wainwright of Reynolds was appointed by Flint Energies’ board of directors to fill the vacancy created by John J. Neely Jr. Wainwright, co-owner and president of Taylor Orchards, will represent Taylor, Schley, Marion and Chattahoochee counties.

Life Sales USA earns top honorsLife Sales USA has been presented the top award in the nation for fixed annuity, life and LTCi sales in 2008. This was the second year in a row the Macon office earned the award.

Consultant joins Tastefully SimpleChristy Faircloth of Gray has joined Tastefully Simple Inc. as an independent consultant. The national direct-sales company features easy-to-prepare gourmet products to guests at home taste-testing parties, where samples, easy meal ideas, recipes and serving suggestions are given.
