Career Women's Network honors two

The Career Women’s Network honored two women Tuesday at its Women of Achievement luncheon at Macon State College.

This year’s honorees were Dodie Cantrell-Bickley and Bess Bayme Cotton.

Cantrell is the former president and general manager of WMAZ-TV in Macon. She left the station to become president and general manager of WTLV-TV and WJXX-TV, Gannett Broadcasting’s NBC and ABC stations in Jacksonville, Fla.

She was cited for a wide range of accomplishments at WMAZ, including bringing focus to community problems and identifying ways to advocate for corrective actions.

Cotton took over a retail store, Kaybee of Macon, after the death of her husband and developed the skills to run it and help it flourish, said Connie Flair, a member of the network.

The awards are held each year in March during Women’s History Month.
