Crispy chicken bites in a waffle cone? These 5 new dining spots to open soon in Macon
Looking for a new dining option? Macon has at least five new spots gearing up to open soon.
Among them are two new chicken joints, a sandwich shop, a barbecue place and a dessert shop.
Two have been long anticipated, while others are new concepts to Middle Georgia.
Here’s a quick look:
Chick’nCone — This Pennsylvania- based chain of fast casual restaurants known for crispy fried chicken bites inside a slightly sweet, hand-rolled waffle cone is opening soon at 860 Forsyth St., Suite 102, near Atrium Health Navicent. The chicken is first coated in a choice of signature sauces from Cinna-Maple to Buffalo Blue to Barbecue before being stuffed into a portable ice-cream-like cone. Sides include Cajun fries and corn and some locations offer beer and boozy milkshakes.
478 Wings — A new wing joint is expected to open in October at 5540 Thomaston Road, Suite G. The menu, which is already up online, includes chicken tenders, butterfly shrimp, fried fish, Philly cheese steak, fried rice, Lo Mein and sides of cheese sticks, fries and pork egg roll.
Baldinos Giant Jersey Subs — This popular subway sandwich shop is gearing up to open soon at at 596 Cherry St. in downtown Macon, with furnishings in place inside and owners Jan and Andy Clark now hiring. The Clarks have fond memories of a former Baldinos in town and decided to bring one back to downtown Macon.
Sonny’s BBQ — This new 4,800-square-foot restaurant known for its pulled pork and sweet tea is expected to open soon at 5811 Zebulon Road. This is the third Sonny’s BBQ in Middle Georgia for Brad Fink, owner of Prime Hospitality, a franchisee of Sonny’s BBQ, with locations in Warner Robins and Perry. The Macon location is expected to seat just over 150 people inside and offers a full bar, a covered patio, and a drive-thru, pick-up window.
Cake ‘n Shake — Known for extreme milkshakes with lavish toppings such as a slice of cheesecake and a cupcake, this family-owned dessert shop is now expected to open its Macon location the third week in October, said co-owner Vincent Clayton. The address is 5557 Thomaston Road, Suite 100, in the Tobesofkee Crossing.
Worth noting
A Huey Magoo’s is coming to now vacant land at 4617 Hartley Bridge Road. The chain restaurant known for its chicken tenders is expected to be housed in a 8,793-square-foot, multi-tenant building. The first Huey Magoo’s in Middle Georgia opened in Milledgeville, with another under construction in Warner Robins and a third expected to be built along Perry Parkway near the Publix in Perry.
Additionally, a new IHOP restaurant has been proposed to be built at 5201 Mercer University Drive near Interstate 475.
All these new restaurants are in addition to a host of other dining options and other business already in the works for Macon, Warner Robins and Perry.
