Waffle House is closing in on nearly 450 restaurants in its home state.

The Norcross-based company is expected to begin construction next month of its breakfast-anytime restaurant on Watson Boulevard in front of the Publix grocery store, at 6015 Watson Blvd.

The restaurant is slated to open in February 2018, Pat Warner, director of PR and external affairs director, said in an email.

The company opened its first Waffle House on Labor Day 1955 in Avondale Estates, an Atlanta suburb, according to its website. By 1961, there were four restaurants.

Since the beginning, each restaurant has been open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, which, according to its website, inspired “urban myths such as ‘Waffle House doors have no locks.’

Waffle House has 430 restaurants in Georgia and a total of 1,850 in 25 states, Warner said.
