The unemployment rates in metro Macon and Warner Robins dropped to 5.4 percent in November. The rate declined as employers created new jobs and laid off fewer workers and more people went to work.
Macon’s unemployment rate for November was 5.4 percent, down from 6.1 percent in October, according to a news release from the Georgia Department of Labor. The rate in November 2015 was 5.6 percent.
The number of jobs in Macon increased by 800 to 105,500 in November. Over the year, 1,200 jobs were added, a 1.2 percent growth rate, up from 104,300 in November 2015.
The number of initial claims for unemployment insurance declined by 294, or 30.7 percent, to 664 in November. Most of the decrease came in manufacturing. Over the year, claims were down by 254 from 918 in November 2015.
The number of employed residents increased by 514 to 100,593. The labor force, which consists of employed residents and those who are unemployed, but actively looking for jobs, decreased by 210 to 106,357. The number of unemployed residents declined by 724 to 5,764.
November rate was down 1.5 percent in Warner Robins
The unemployment rate in metro Warner Robins in November was 5.4 percent, down 1.5 percent from 6.9 percent in October. The rate in November 2015 also was 5.4 percent.
The number of jobs increased by 200 to 71,000 in November. Over the year, 100 jobs were added up from 70,900 in November 2015.
The number of initial claims for unemployment insurance declined by 977, or 62.5 percent, to 587 in November. Most of the decrease came in manufacturing. Over the year, claims were up by 13 from 574 in November 2015.
Metro Gainesville had the state’s lowest area jobless rate at 4.1 percent. The Heart of Georgia-Altamaha region had the highest at 6.3 percent.
Meanwhile, Georgia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for November was 5.3 percent, up from 5.2 percent in October. It was 5.5 percent in November 2015.

In November, 1,403 new job openings in Macon and 669 new job openings in Warner Robins were posted on Employ Georgia. Throughout the state, 62,905 new job openings were posted.
