A series of chain reaction accidents on Interstate 75 sent four people to the hospital and crumpled 13 vehicles Friday morning, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.
Just after 8:20 a.m., rush hour traffic stopped in northbound lanes leading toward Pierce Avenue, causing a rear-end collision in the left lane near the railroad overpass.
A short distance behind, cars stopped in the left lane to avoid the accident and seven vehicles were involved in a chain reaction that injured two people.
Traffic stopped in the right lane due to the two accidents ahead, and four vehicles collided in another chain reaction that began when a GMC truck rear-ended the car in front.

None of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening.
Northbound lanes were closed for about 75 minutes, backing up traffic on I-16 West.
Southbound traffic slowed as Bibb deputies allowed some vehicles to cross the median in the emergency lane.
