Warner Robins police capture burglary suspect after short chase

WARNER ROBINS -- A homeowner surprised a man inside her Redbud Circle home Tuesday and authorities caught up with the suspect.

Shedrick Smith, 20, of Warner Robins, was charged with burglary, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and obstruction of an officer, said Houston County sheriff’s Lt. Jon Holland.

Houston County sheriff’s Lt. Ronnie Harlowe said the suspect, later identified as Smith, fled out the back door after the 4:45 p.m. incident.

The homeowner was not harmed. Smith fled with cash, jewelry and a gun, according to Harlowe.

Houston County sheriff’s Cpl. George Runyon said authorities are now looking for the gun, believed to be a .38 caliber revolver or a .357 caliber revolver.

Sheriff’s deputies and Warner Robins police quickly set up a perimeter, and a Warner Robins police officer captured the suspect off Avalon Circle after a short foot chase, Harlowe said. Smith was caught about 6:30 p.m., Holland said.

Authorities recovered gold and silver coins and jewelry near where Smith was captured, Runyon said. Authorities were looking for the gun in the Avalon Circle area Tuesday night, he said.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact Runyon at 542-2085.
