Macon police charged a man with robbery by force Saturday morning after he and another man allegedly beat two victims and stole an iPhone in a downtown parking deck, according to a police report.
Calvin Love Jr., 23, of Canterbury Road, was charged with robbery by force and obstruction, while the second suspect escaped on foot, according to the report.
Officers were patrolling Cherry Street on foot when the two victims approached them about 2:28 a.m. and said they were beaten and had an iPhone stolen in the parking deck at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Mulberry Street Lane. The two victims pointed out the two suspects, and officers immediately chased them behind the Macon-Bibb County Convention & Visitors Bureau. They caught Love, but the second man escaped.
The victims, Thomas Pierce, 20, of Warner Robins, and Justin Rutherford, 20, of Byron, told officers they were in the parking deck when the two men attacked them from behind. Rutherford managed to escape and looked for help while Pierce was punched and kicked, they said. When Rutherford returned, the two men were fleeing, and Rutherford and Pierce chased them before finding the police officers.
