An airman at Robins Air Force Base will receive a Bronze Star medal with valor at 2 p.m. Thursday.
Master Sgt. Gene B. Jameson III will receive the medal for his leadership when deployed to Afghanistan in 2011 as the operations flight chief for the 455th Expeditionary Communications Squadron, according to a base news release.
“Jameson directed heavy equipment efforts to combat a more than five-acre fire caused by an insurgent rocket attack,” the release states. “On his fourth trip into the compound, he discovered two crates of grenades and shoulder-launched missiles only 10 feet from advancing flames.
“His crisis leadership during the five-hour ordeal prevented the munitions from detonating and saved the lives of 50 personnel battling the blaze.”
