Woman killed on I-75 in Houston County; others hurt in Macon wreck

A woman was killed while walking on Interstate 75 in Houston County Thursday while others were injured in a Macon accident on Riverside Drive.

At about 9:10 p.m., Perry police and Georgia State Patrol troopers were dispatched to the 138 mile marker of I-75. Misty Carrier, 36, and her boyfriend, Billy Lee Donaldson, 41, both of Roberta, had run out of gas and were walking southbound on the interstate toward Perry, said Trooper 1st Class John Sellers.

Carrier was struck in the center of the on-ramp where it meets the interstate, Sellers said. She was killed on impact. Donaldson was not injured.

Meanwhile in Macon, a woman’s car broke down just before 10 p.m. in the northbound left hand lane of Riverside Drive near Orange Street. Mary Basley, 24, of Juliette, offered to help jump-start the car’s battery, said Austin Riley, a traffic fatality investigator.

Basley became trapped between two cars when another vehicle rear-ended the broken down car. She was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia with serious injuries, he said.

The Macon crash remains under investigation. No charges have been filed.
