Powerball soars to $320 million as Ga. Lottery hits milestone

Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot is expected to reach $320 million dollars in the multi-state lottery.

Brisk ticket sales helped fuel the prize that rolled over 14 times since June 27.

The Georgia Lottery just passed a $50 billion milestone in sales since the games began in 1993.

Over the 2012 fiscal year that ended June 30, Georgia collected a record $3.8 billion dollars.

“We are pleased that our new fiscal year is off to a strong start,” Margaret DeFrancisco, CEO of the Georgia Lottery Corporation said in a news release. “We remain committed to our mission of responsibly maximizing revenues for HOPE and Pre-K.”

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery returned more than $13.6 billion to the state for education needs, the release stated.

Lottery profits pay for specific programs, including Georgia’s HOPE scholarships and pre-kindergarten education.
