With no opposition, a conditional-use permit for an office at 3931 Ridge Ave. was approved Monday by the Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission.
The permit to allow a professional office at the site came up at the commission’s July 9 meeting, but was deferred until Monday to allow the applicant time to address issues raised by commissioners.
The size of the building was reduced to 4,350 square feet from 6,675 square feet, and the number of parking spaces was decreased to 22 from 35 spaces, according to the revised plan. Also, the parking area at the front of the building along Forest Hill Road was eliminated.
In addition, the layout of the building was changed to match the adjacent building at 3951 Ridge Ave.

“This is definitely an improvement,” said commissioner Kamal Azar.
Jim Rollins, with The Summit Group real estate firm and representing the applicant Marble Masters, agreed that site details and architect plans would be brought back to the commission before construction begins.
Marble Masters plans to lease the building as a professional office.
Another item brought back to the commission also passed without any objection.
A conditional-use permit to allow an existing building as a place of worship with a variance in setback requirements was approved at 118 Lamar St. for the Islamic Center of Macon,
After the Design Review Board decided July 2 that a planned demolition of a structure on the property was inappropriate, the item was deferred by the applicant at the commission’s July 9 meeting. The revised application does not include demolishing the structure.
Also, design approval of a fence was sent back to the DRB for review.
