A frozen yogurt eatery and a sports-themed barbershop appear to be prepping to open in the former Blockbuster in the Plantation Centre (Kroger) shopping plaza on Zebulon Road.

The Blockbuster, at 5932 Zebulon Road, closed earlier this year.

Construction crews have been working during the last few weeks on the location, which has been divided into two separate storefronts. Construction permits in the window identify the businesses as Sport Clips Haircuts and Tutti Fruiti Yogurt.

Headquartered in Georgetown, Texas, Sport Clips opened its first store in 1993 and opened its 900th store earlier this month in Lake Oswego, Ore., according to the company’s website. The website said a Macon store is coming soon to Zebulon Road. Media photos on the website show Sport Clips locations decked out with several large-screen televisions, lockers, sports paraphernalia and female stylists dressed in athletic gear.

Entrepreneur Magazine named Sport Clips in its top 20 Fastest Growing Franchises and the business made Forbes Magazines’ Top 20 Franchises to start.

Tutti Frutti, according to its Facebook page, is a self-serve specialty frozen yogurt retailer with more than 580 stores planned in California, Virginia, Georgia, Texas, Hawaii, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Tahiti and Mexico. The company’s website said it was “coming soon” to Macon.

Franchise officials for both businesses could not be reached Thursday. Messages to the Southern Pines Plantation agent, the company that owns the shopping center, were not returned Thursday.
