Magazine names State Bank among top U.S. banks

State Bank Financial Corp. was named among the top performing banks in the U.S., according to Bank Director magazine’s 2012 Bank Performance Scorecard. State Bank ranked fourth among the 195 banks in the $1 billion-to-$5 billion-asset category.

The next closest Georgia bank on the scorecard was ranked 104th, according to a news release.

The scorecard is a ranking of 467 U.S. financial institutions divided into four categories by asset size.

“The Bank Director ranking is a great way for State Bank to celebrate its third anniversary,” bank Chairman and CEO Joe Evans, said in the release.

The magazine’s analysis ranked institutions based on three areas: profitability, capital and asset quality.

Atlanta-based State Bank Financial Corp. is the holding company for Macon-based State Bank and Trust Co., which has about $2.67 billion in assets as of June 30. It has offices in metro Atlanta and Middle Georgia.
