Macon man dies from gunshot to chest

Macon police and rescue units were called at about 3:20 a.m. Wednesday to Birch Street after a person was wounded by gunfire.

Rescue workers performed CPR shortly after arriving, but were not successful in reviving the victim.

Antron Williams, 23, of St. Charles Place, was pronounced dead by Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones in the front yard of 1295 Birch St.

“This is our fourth homicide in less than a month,” Jones said.

An autopsy later revealed Williams died of a single gunshot wound to the chest, Jones said.

The man died east of Pio Nono Avenue between Beech and Montpelier avenues.

The incident follows two other shootings late Monday night.

No further details were immediately available.
