Monroe County employee charged with theft of county funds

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office charged a county employee with felony theft after she allegedly misappropriated funds from the commissoners’ office, according to a Tuesday news release.

According to the release, investigators charged Kim Romine, 45, with multiple counts of theft by taking and breach of fiduciary responsibility. Investigators said Romine allegedly made at least 10 automatic payments worth $11,325 to personal accounts for cell phone, car insurance and natural gas charges using a county-owned credit card from November 2010 to July 2.

The county fired Romine Monday. She turned herself in to the Monroe County jail Tuesday and was later released on a $7,500 bond.
