The newly appointed head of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture will speak at Fort Valley State University on Thursday.
Sonny Ramaswamy will speak at the Pettigrew Center at 1 p.m. He will discuss the agency’s role in enhancing agriculture, education and research. The event is free and open to the public, according to a release.
The Obama administration announced his appointment to the post in March. Ramaswamy previously served as dean of Oregon State University’s College of Agricultural Sciences.
The National Institute of Food and Agriculture is the USDA’s link to land grant colleges, such as Fort Valley State, and other institutions to advance agriculture and food research.
