Advanced Disposal Services plans to install a recyclable materials transfer station in an industrial district on McAfee Road in east Bibb County.
The company has requested a conditional-use permit from the Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission for the transfer station at 100 McAfee Road, off Riggins Mill Road. The application is on the agenda for Monday’s meeting.
The center would be used for residential curb side collection, such as glass, paper, plastic and corrugated cardboard collected from Advanced Disposal’s clients, according to the commission’s staff report. It will not be open to the public.
The site was previously used as a drop-point for refuse collection vehicles that transported municipal solid waste and construction materials.

During the initial phase of the transfer station, all activity will be confined to a 7,650 square foot portion of the existing concrete floor, the staff report stated. A transfer truck would deposit materials on the concrete and a track hoe or front-end loader would transfer recyclable materials to a larger transfer truck. The operation is expected to transfer 150 tons a day.
A second phase would require the excavation of an existing truck pit, and when the dirt is removed it would allow a larger transfer truck and allow the facility to increase the volume and speed of transporting materials, the report states. The facility would not exceed 400 tons a day.
The hours of operations would be 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and material will be transferred within 24 hours of initial drop off. No non-recyclable materials will be processed or transferred at this location, the report states.
The meeting begins at 1:30 p.m. in the 10th floor conference room, Willie C. Hill Hall Annex, 682 Cherry St.
