Registration for students new to Houston County schools for the 2012-13 school year begins this month.
Starting July 18, parents can register elementary and middle school students at their zones’ schools.
Registration will take place 8-11:30 a.m., and 1-3 p.m.
High school registration information can be found by checking with the individual school for the correct date and time.
Zone maps are provided on the district’s web page, www.hcbe.net/zoning.aspx, and can be verified by calling the school.
A birth certificate; certificate of immunization; ear, eye and dental screening; proof of full-time residency; a copy of Social Security card or waiver; and medical information that will affect instruction are required at the time of enrollment.
Permanent academic and attendance records from previous school are required within 30 days of enrollment and guardianship or custody orders are also required at enrollment if a student does not live with his or her natural parents.
The first day of school is Aug. 1.
Middle Georgia Technical College to host annual race
The Middle Georgia Technical College Foundation will host its third annual Race for Education on Sept. 29.
The event is a run/walk fundraiser for literacy. All proceeds benefit adult education programs at the school, such as GED scholarships, health and family literacy programs and English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) initiatives.
The race includes 5K, 10.2K and one mile “fun run” events, according to a news release.
Early registration costs $20 for the 5K or 10.2K, and $35 for both races. Participants 19 and younger must pay fees of $15 for individual races or $25 for both. The one mile run is $10.
Team registration -- groups of eight or more people -- will receive a discounted rate.
Late registration fees take effect Sept. 14.
