An accused shoplifter who returned to Lowe’s on Zebulon Road led Bibb deputies on a chase Thursday into Monroe County.
Cody Darrell Montgomery, 28, of Bonaire was arrested after the Georgia State Patrol used stop-sticks to flatten his tires in the 600 block of Ga. 42 in Monroe County, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Montgomery is accused of taking a paint sprayer earlier in the day and Lowe’s loss prevention officers recognized him when he returned at about 4:30 p.m. and tried to steal a weed eater and a drill, the release stated.
Sheriff’s deputies pulled up when he was leaving the store, he dropped the items, got into a green Honda Accord and drove off.

Montgomery led the officers into Monroe County where he ran off the road into a ditch once his tires hit the stop-sticks.
He was arrested for two felony counts of theft by shoplifting, a bench warrant from state court, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, and eluding, the release stated.
Montgomery also has holds from Houston County and the Georgia State Patrol.
