WARNER ROBINS -- Houston County community organizers are accepting donations of school supplies for the annual Back 2 School Bash.
The third annual event, which is open to all students of Houston County schools, will be held 9 a.m.-noon July 20.
“We initially said we weren’t going to do it because of the expense of it all,” said Sheryl Frazier, executive director of the Warner Robins Housing Authority. “I think it’s an event that the community looks forward to each year.”
The need is there, she said, noting the event has grown each year.

Organizers were prepared to give away 500 backpacks at the inaugural event in 2010 but found themselves scouring local stores for 400 additional bags and supplies to meet demand on the day of the event.
Last year, they started out with 1,200 bags and still had people lined up in the pouring rain waiting for supplies.
This year, they will have enough supplies for 1,500 children, Frazier said.
Organizers are accepting donations of backpacks and school supplies, such as notebooks, pencils and folders for school-age children.
Donations can be dropped off at the housing authority office at 112 Memorial Terrace, Warner Robins.
“The more we receive, the more we can serve,” Frazier said.
This year’s event will be at a new location because of construction around McConnell-Talbert Stadium.
The block party-type event, which will also feature free food, haircuts and informational booths, will take place at Cam Campbell Homes near Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church on Oak Grove Drive near South Davis Drive.
