Coliseum Health System CEO Allen Golson was alive in the cockpit after his twin-engine airplane crashed in Ocala, Fla., on Friday.
An autopsy showed that he died from smoke inhalation and burns, a spokeswoman for the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
Golson’s wife, Carol, survived the crash. Rescuers pulled her from the wreckage. According to an incident report, Carol Golson told a sheriff’s deputy that her husband said they were “too low,” and the next thing she knew they were “on the ground.”
“She stated that her husband was conscious and talking to her after the crash,” the report said. “People came to assist them and the plane caught on fire.”
