WARNER ROBINS -- Warner Robins City Council approved the transfer of about $22,000 Tuesday to pay for work needed to restore the Bay Gall Creek buffer.
Council voted at its meeting to approve a contract with Cedargreen Landscaping, Inc. to replant vegetation at Bay Gall, a requirement set forth by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division after a 2011 investigation into the dredging of the creek.
The funds will be transferred from an unobligated funds account to the stormwater account.
Mayor Chuck Shaheen said after the meeting the permit violations at Bay Gall have helped the city protect itself from future infractions. He said about $10,000 has been spent on about 10 employees who will receive EPD training in March.
City employees of the year were announced at the meeting. They are: Firefighter Russell Oakley, a rescue technician; Officer Andre Barnes, who is part of the department’s U.S. Marshals Service; utilities worker Tommy Scott; Charles Garrett, the superintendent of International City Golf Course; Carol Dozier, who works in the City Clerk’s office; and Marquez Roberto, superintendent of maintenance.
