Macon police officers are expected to face some sort of disciplinary action for playing football Thursday afternoon while awaiting a detective to help serve an arrest warrant, the chief said in a statement.
Police Chief Mike Burns said in e-mail statement that the specialized group of officers involved won’t be suspended. The e-mail did not disclose the disciplinary action or the names of the officers.
The statement was released Monday by Jami Gaudet, public information officer for Macon police. She could not be reached immediately for comment.
Burns said the officers met behind a building in the Presidential Parkway area to help with the warrant and played football while waiting for the detective to arrive.
“All officers admitted to their involvement in the incident,” Burns said in the statement. “It was explained to them by their superiors, that however harmless their actions, they used poor judgment in the situation and as a result, will be disciplined.”
