An administration request to rename Rosa Parks Square as Macon Civic Plaza and approve a grand concept plan for park improvements, drew denunciation from Macon City Council’s Appropriations Committee on Monday.
Council members thanked State Bank for a $10,000 donation -- unconnected to the name change -- meant to remove two existing parking lots in anticipation of further changes.
By a 3-2 vote, the committee tabled the ordinance, asking for it to be resubmitted with detailed financial plans and no change of name. The two council members who voted against tabling, Henry Ficklin and Elaine Lucas, sought to kill the request outright.
