Bibb urges against celebratory gunfire on New Year’s Eve
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to refrain from any celebratory gunfire on New Year’s Eve, such as discharging a weapon in the air. In a news release, the sheriff’s office said such a practice is both dangerous and against the law.
The news release noted that bullets fired in the air eventually must come down, and can cause injury, property damage and even death.
Sheriff Jerry Modena said deputies out on patrol will be paying special attention this year to individuals engaged in reckless conduct with firearms as well as drunk drivers.
Anyone who hears gunfire or sees anything suspicious should contact law enforcement.
