The Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Dry Branch man Saturday night and charged him with shooting his son, Chief Deputy Billy Boney said.
Boney said deputies responded to the shooting on Hickory Court at about 9 p.m. Marshall Smith, 55, got into an argument with his son, Nathan, in his mid-20s, Boney said. The verbal altercation turned physical when Nathan Smith pushed Marshall Smith down. The elder Smith then went to get his gun and allegedly shot his son once in the upper thigh, Boney said.
Marshall Smith is in the Twiggs County jail. He has been charged with one count of aggravated assault and two counts of cruelty to children in the third degree, since there were two young children present at the scene, Boney said.
