The driver who fatally struck a 31-year-old Macon man with her car Wednesday night told deputies she didn’t see the man step in front of her vehicle.
Shania Dectrice Chambliss told Bibb County deputies she was headed home from work at about 11:30 p.m. when she struck Monty Joseph Clark Jr., of Brookwood Drive, with her 2004 Ford Focus, according to a sheriff’s office news release.
Clark and his friend, Robert Taylor, were trying to cross Forest Hill Road from the Billy’s Clubhouse parking lot to get to the Rivalry’s Sports Bar and Grill parking lot. Taylor saw a car traveling west on Forest Hill Road as Clark began to cross the street, and he told his friend to stop, according to the release.
Chambliss told authorities she saw a man waving his arms at her, but did not see Clark, the second man, when he stepped in front of her car, according to the sheriff’s office.
Clark was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia where he was pronounced dead. No one else was injured, according to the release.
The incident remains under investigation.
