Democrats in the state House will kick off a “rural hearing tour” about reapportionment Thursday in Fort Valley.
The tour is meant to give the public an opportunity to participate in an open forum about the reapportionment process, according to a news release from the House Democratic Caucus. Democrats claim Republicans overlooked rural communities on their hearing tour, among other complaints. Republicans held a hearing in Macon on June 13.
The Fort Valley hearing will take place from 6-8 p.m. in the Student Amenities Building at Fort Valley State University. Rep. Lynmore James, D-Montezuma, and House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams, D-Atlanta, will attend, according to a Fort Valley State news release.
Another hearing will take place from 6-8 p.m. July 28 in the Magnolia Ballroom at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville before the tour continues on to Brunswick and Thomasville.
