It’s several months from being open, but that’s not stopping Hull Storey Gibson Companies -- owner of Macon Mall -- from holding a news conference Thursday to announce a future tenant.
Hull Storey Gibson Companies sent out a news release publicizing that Pat O’Neal, president of Valdosta-based Smok’n Pig BBQ, will attend the news conference along with Macon Mayor Robert Reichert.
Smok’n Pig BBQ is owned by the same company that owns Ole Times Country Buffet. Restaurant officials said work on the future Macon Mall restaurant has not begun and it could take about six months before it opens.
Reichert accepted the invitation to attend the news conference because it’s a “positive sign for development that needs a lift,” said Clay Murphey, interim director of the city of Macon’s external affairs. “Any activity you can show there makes other potential customers rethink.”
