An elderly man who was severely beaten Saturday morning made progress in his recovery, while the man charged with the beating was moved into isolation, according to the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office.
Chief Deputy Billy Boney said Robert Eugene Saul, of Jeffersonville, was taken off the respirator Sunday. The 76-year-old man is “doing better and that’s a good sign,” Boney said.
Boney added that John Taylor, 32, of Boston, was transferred to the Wilkinson County jail Saturday night, “so he can be put in an isolation cell.”
Taylor is accused of attacking Saul -- a maintenance man -- at the Ambassador Inn at 5193 Ga. 96 in Jeffersonville. He is also suspected of beating Gene Allen Musgrave to death.
Taylor is charged with murder, entering an auto, burglary and aggravated battery, and faces an additional kidnapping charge.
