P&Z: 220-unit apartment complex planned in north Bibb

A 220-unit apartment complex is proposed in north Bibb County if the site receives zoning approval.

A rezoning application and a conditional-use permit has been filed for 3990 Riverside Park Blvd. and 4000 Bowman Blvd. to rezone 22.65 acres of undeveloped property from a general commercial district to a multi-family residential district. The application is expected to be considered at Monday’s meeting of the Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission.

The property is owned by Butler Family Holdings LLP and it is adjacent to the Butler Toyota and Lexus dealerships, according to the commission’s staff report.

The gated development will include 11 apartment buildings with 20 units each, a 4,000-square-foot clubhouse, outdoor pool and a volleyball court and playground, the report states. It also will include 24 garage units.

“There are no major issues that the commission should consider in the review of this rezoning application,” the report states.

This is the second time this month a proposed apartment complex in north Bibb County has come before the commission.

At the Feb. 14 meeting, the commission approved a 238-unit apartment complex -- North Pond Apartments -- which would be located off New Forsyth Road north of Bass Road. That development, on a 23-acre tract, would include 14 residential buildings and seven garage buildings.

The commission meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the 10th floor conference room, Willie C. Hill City Hall Annex, 682 Cherry St.
