WR council votes against renewing contract for city attorney Elliott

WARNER ROBINS - City Council members locked horns over renewing the contract with City Attorney Jim Elliott, voting 4-2 to deny a proposal to extend his yearly contract.

Councilmen Mike Daley, Paul Shealy, Bob Wilbanks and Daron Lee voted not to extend Elliot's contract, with councilmen Tom Simms and John Williams voting for the extension.

"This is an embarrassment. This council does not understand Mr. Elliott is right in the middle of negations with" city business, Mayor Chuck Shaheen said.

Shealy said he voted against the renewal because he feels Elliott and Shaheen do not best represent the city, and that Elliott would not go to court against the mayor.

A visibly upset Elliott declined to comment after the meeting.
