Pedestrian critically hurt in Gray Highway accident

A 54-year-old woman was critically hurt Friday night when she was hit by a van in the 900 block of Gray Highway near Macon's Hall Street.

The driver of a pickup traveling in front of the van swerved to avoid the woman, who was standing in the far left northbound lane shortly after 6:30 p.m., according to a news release from the Macon Police Department.

No charges were filed against the driver of the van, who told police she did not see the victim and could not avoid hitting her, the release stated.

The injured pedestrian, whose name was not immediately released, was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia.

Friday rush hour traffic backed up on Second Street and Gray Highway as investigators blocked the busy highway and gathered evidence at the scene.
