Bleckley County schools were locked down for a brief time Friday morning after two men robbed the Citizens Bank in Cochran.
Police believe they thwarted a robbery at the ATM earlier in the morning before the men pulled a gun and successfully made off with cash from the bank at about 9 a.m., said Cochran Police Chief Jim Sanders.
An officer was with a bank employee who opened the automated teller at about 8 a.m. as a man passed by the branch at the corner of Third and Dykes streets.
"We believe one of them walked by and then they came back after the officer had gone and that's when they went in," Sanders said.

Police had the bank surrounded within three minutes of the call, but the robbers had already fled, he said.
The case has been turned over to the GBI and FBI.
