A Fitzgerald man was killed Tuesday after a bomb exploded near him in Afghanistan, according to the Department of Defense.
Senior Airman Michael J. Buras, 23, died after being wounded when an improvised explosive device was detonated in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Buras was in a vehicle when the bomb exploded. Assigned to the 99th Civil Engineer Squadron explosive ordnance disposal team, Buras deployed from Nellis Air Force Base, Nev.
Buras was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds received in 2009.
Two other airmen were wounded in the explosion, according to an Air Force news release.
