Pedestrian hit on busy Houston County highway

A man trying to cross Ga. 247 in the dark was hit by a pickup near Sandy Run Road in Houston County shortly after 6 a.m.

Juan Sanchez, 49, of Bonaire suffered a head injury and was taken by ambulance to The Medical Center of Central Georgia, said Sgt. Mark Holloway of the Georgia State Patrol.

"He was alert and moving," Holloway said.

No charges are expected to be filed against the driver of the Dodge Dakota, Holloway said.

"There's no lighting there and it's a pretty busy Road," he said. "It was dark and he was wearing dark clothes."

The road was partially blocked for nearly an hour but was clear by about 7 a.m.
