High speed chase races through downtown Macon

A high speed chase from Houston County ended shortly after 4 a.m. Tuesday in Macon.

Houston County deputies were pursuing a Ford Explorer pulling a stolen trailer on Ga. 247 headed into Bibb County at about 3:50 a.m.

Bibb County deputies tried to stop the vehicle by laying down stop strips at Hazel Street, but the pursuit kept going at speeds of 90 to 100 miles per hour.

The chase ended at Emery Highway and Coliseum Drive where a 52-year-old man, identified as Jerry Dean Reed, was taken into custody.

He is accused of stealing the trailer and numerous traffic violations.
