Southeastern Region semifinals: Florida tops N.C., will face Georgia in final

WARNER ROBINS - Florida (Viera Suntree) defeated North Carolina (Winston-Salem) 3-2 in a Little League Baseball Southeastern Region Tournament semifinal on Wednesday.

Florida will play Georgia in the championship game on Friday at 8 p.m. on ESPN.

In the top of the first for North Carolina, Josh Kent singled to left field. Ben Anstrom walked. Logan Welch and Laney Orr struck out. Robby Casey grounded out to first.

For Florida in the bottom of the first, Jimmy Cawley doubled to center field. Jackson Prater grounded out to short. Vincent Benvenuto walked. Sebastian Samuels struck out. Bryson Wallace popped out to right field to end the inning.

Bobby Scanlon was thrown out on a bunt attempt to open the second for North Carolina. Andrew Kent struck out. Bo Kenan singled to right field. Jimbo Welsh grounded out to the pitcher.

In the bottom of the second, Ian Swan singled to left field and was awarded second on an obstruction call. Michael Pineda laid down a bunt single and advanced Swan to third. Hayden Kingston struck out. Dylan Owens struck out. Cawley grounded out to first.

For North Carolina in the top of the third, Josh Kent ripped a single to right field. Anstrom grounded out to the shortstop. Welch chopped a grounder to third that he beat out, scoring Josh Kent for a 1-0 lead. Orr singled to right field, and Welch advanced to third. Casey and Scanlon struck out.

Prater grounded out to second to lead off the bottom of the third. Benvenuto struck out. Samuels hit an infield single. Wallace doubled down the right field line, scoring Samuels from first to tie the game, 1-1. Christian Smallwood grounded out to second to end the inning.

In the top of the fourth for North Carolina, Mike McHugh struck out. Kenan hit a line drive off the pitcher and reach safely. Sam Lentz struck out. Josh Kent lined out to the first baseman.

For Florida in the bottom of the fourth, Pineda doubled to the gap in right-center field. Kingston popped out attempting to bunt. Chris McLoughlin struck out. Cawley walked and Prater singled to load the bases. Benvenuto singled to left field, scoring two runs for a 3-1 lead. Samuels struck out.

Anstrom struck out to lead off the fifth for North Carolina. Welch walked, then took second on a wild pitch. Orr singled to right field to put runners on first and third. Casey hit a ground ball that the second baseman couldn't gather up, and Welch scored to cut the lead to 3-2. The runners moved to second and third on a passed ball. Scanlon struck out. McHugh grounded out to shortstop.

In the bottom of the fifth for Florida, Wallace grounded out to first base. Swan hit a ground ball that got through the third baseman's legs. Pineda singled to left field. Kingston struck out for the second out. Dylan Owens grounded out to the pitcher to end the inning.

For North Carolina in the top of the sixth, Kenan led off with a single to left field then moved to second on a passed ball. Lentz struck out. Josh Kent struck out. Kenan took third on a wild pitch. Anstrom struck out to end the game.
