Southeastern Region baseball: West Virginia advances to semifinals

WARNER ROBINS - West Virginia (Ripley) topped Virginia (SYA East) 3-2 in a Little League Baseball Southeastern Region Tournament pool play game Monday.

West Virginia (2-1) will play either Georgia or North Carolina in a semifinal game on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Virginia (1-2) will play South Carolina (0-3) in a consolation game on Tuesday at 1 p.m.

In the bottom of the first inning for Virginia, Matthew Blaise led off with a home run to left field.

West Virginia took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third when Jonathan Stepp's fly ball to right field got lost in the sun. West Virginia added another run in the sixth to lead 3-1.

For Virginia in the bottom of the sixth, Sean Culleiton reached first on a dribbling ground ball. Carter Bach doubled to left field to put runners on second and third with one out. Culleiton scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 3-2, and Bach moved to third. Trey House popped out to first base for the second out. Michael Coritz also popped out to first to end the game.
