Stabbing leads to standoff with Houston deputies

A Houston County woman was stabbed multiple times in a domestic incident that led to a standoff with deputies early Monday.

Laura Daniels is in stable condition at the Houston Medical Center and is expected to recover, said Lt. Jon Holland, assistant commander of the criminal investigations division of the Houston County Sheriff's Office.

Daniels' estranged husband, Alvin Daniels, 40, is accused of forcing open the door of the couple's house at 106 Old Hickory Circle at about 2:20 a.m., Holland said.

Laura Daniels fled with three children to call for help from a neighbor's house when he chased after and stabbed her outside the home, Holland said.

Alvin Daniels then retreated into the house in a two-hour standoff.

"He barricaded himself in a bathroom and made threats toward officers that he was armed," Holland said.

The Sheriff's Response Team was called to the scene and Daniels was arrested at about 4:30 a.m. but he did not have a gun, Holland said.

Daniels is charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery and may face additional felony charges following the incident, Holland said.
