Southeastern Region baseball: North Carolina defeats Alabama

WARNER ROBINS - North Carolina (Winston-Salem) defeated Alabama (Huntsville East) 4-3 in pool play at the Little League Baseball Southeastern Region Tournament on Saturday.

With runners on first and third with two outs in the top of the third, North Carolina's Logan Welch singled up the middle to score Josh Kent for a 1-0 lead. Sam Lentz scored for a 2-0 lead moments later when a pick-off throw from the catcher to first base was errant.

Whitt Davis evened the score 2-2 in the bottom of the third with a two-run double to left field. Richard Constantine hit a bloop single to left field moments later to put Alabama up 3-2.

Bobby Scanlon tied the game 3-3 in the top of the fourth on a RBI-double to right-center field. Scanlon scored on a passed ball to the next batter to put North Carolina up 4-3.

On Sunday, Alabama (1-0) plays Georgia (1-0) at noon and North Carolina (0-1) plays South Carolina (0-1) at 7:30 p.m.
